7 Days Machame Route Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m – 3,000m
Distance: 11 km
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
After breakfast in Arusha or Moshi, transfer to Machame Gate for registration. Begin trekking through the lush rainforest zone, where you may see monkeys and colourful birds. Continue to Machame Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
Elevation: 3,000m – 3,840m
Distance: 9 km
Hiking Time: 4–6 hours
Leave the rainforest behind and climb through moorland landscapes with spectacular views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro’s volcanic features. Arrive at Shira Camp with beautiful views of Kibo Peak.

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,840m – 3,960m
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 6–8 hours
Today is important for acclimatization. Trek towards Lava Tower (4,630m) before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adapt to altitude.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Summit Elevation: 5,895m

Begin the summit climb around midnight. Reach Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka Camp for overnight.
