7 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route
The Rongai Route (7 Days Kilimanjaro Rongai Route) approaches Kilimanjaro from the remote northern side near the Kenyan border. It is one of the quietest and most scenic routes, known for fewer crowds, a gradual climb profile, and excellent summit success. This 7-day itinerary includes a full acclimatization day for maximum comfort and safety.
Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nalemoru Gate (1,950m) – Simba Camp (2,650m)
Your trek begins at Nalemoru Gate, where you register and meet your mountain team. The trail starts through farmland, pine forest, and lush vegetation with possible sightings of colobus monkeys.
A gentle hike brings you to Simba Camp, located on the edge of the moorland with panoramic views of Kenya’s plains.
Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave Camp (3,450m)
Today you trek across open moorland with beautiful views of Mawenzi Peak, the jagged volcanic tower. The trail is steady and perfect for acclimatization.
Arrive at Second Cave Camp, known for its open landscape and peaceful ambiance.

Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,330m)
A steep but short climb brings you to Mawenzi Tarn, one of the most stunning campsites on Kilimanjaro, located beneath the towering Mawenzi spires.
Spend the afternoon on acclimatization hikes around the tarn. This day greatly improves your summit success chances.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn – Kibo Hut (4,700m)
Leaving the rugged Mawenzi area, you cross the vast Saddle, a high-altitude desert between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape is lunar-like, quiet, and dramatically beautiful.
