7 Days Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route
The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and successful routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. It begins on the western side of the mountain, crossing the dramatic Shira Plateau before joining the Machame route toward the summit. The 7-day version is ideal for climbers who want a beautiful trail with strong acclimatization and fewer crowds.
Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)
Your journey begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. After a short transfer to the trailhead, you start trekking through a lush rainforest filled with towering trees, moss, and wildlife such as colobus monkeys.
A gentle ascent brings you to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
The hike continues with a steep climb out of the forest into the heather and moorland zone. The landscape opens up dramatically, revealing the expansive Shira Plateau.
Arrive at Shira 1 Camp, surrounded by volcanic formations and vast open spaces.
Day 3: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
A gentle trek across the Shira Plateau allows your body to acclimatize well. The trail is beautiful, with panoramic views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru.
Reach Shira 2 Camp for lunch, followed by an afternoon acclimatization hike to slightly higher altitude.
Day 4: Shira 2 – Lava Tower (4,630m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)
This is an important acclimatization day. You ascend steadily to Lava Tower, a massive volcanic rock formation towering at 4,630m.
After lunch at Lava Tower, you descend to the Barranco Valley, home to unique giant senecio plants.
Camp overnight at Barranco Camp, one of Kilimanjaro’s most scenic spots.
Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Start the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a fun and rewarding scramble that offers spectacular views.
Continue on rolling terrain across ridges and valleys to Karanga Camp, an essential acclimatization stop before the final push.
Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (4,640m)
Ascend steadily toward Barafu Camp, your summit base. The landscape is barren and rocky, signaling your arrival in the high alpine desert zone.
After an early dinner, rest as much as possible in preparation for tonight’s summit attempt.
Day 7: Barafu – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Hotel
The summit push begins around midnight. You climb slowly and steadily up steep switchbacks, heading toward Stella Point (5,756m).
A short final stretch along the crater rim leads you to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After celebrating, descend to Barafu Camp for a break before continuing down to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate.
A K & G Tanzania Travel Specialist driver transfers you to your hotel for rest.
